Rempah is a museum relating to Herbs & Spices. It is located at Jalan Raya Timur, Klang. Klang officially Royal Town of Klang, is a Royal Town and a former capital of Selangor. The site was built during the British colonization. Hence, characteristics of colonial architecture is appeared on the building. The area is considering middle range place where mostly locals here or tourist coming for a purpose. Rempah will boost the popularity of Klang and promote knowledge relating to herbs and spices in Klang. The idea of the design was inspired by effects of locals using spices in the older days and the present.

 

The design concept is by using the fusion of industrial style and sustainable idea. The museum does design with the consideration of neighboring architecture.  In addition, the design will bring the outside positive view into the building. The lights in the space is designated according to the desired emotions in the museum like movement, transform, & emphasis. It is made by using the artificial lights and natural lights. Applying natural lighting idea into the museum does not only creates emotion, it also meets the sustainable idea which helps to reduce the electricity usage.

 

The museum is divided into 2 floors. Separating the spaces into 8 main areas including the lobby, 4 exhibition halls, a temporary exhibition hall, a café and a resting area. Some areas applied with green and innovative design to achieve sustainable living. It includes cross-ventilation design, usage of natural sunlight to support certain activities and landscape & waterscape to enhance the journey in the museum. ‘Rempah’ not only provide knowledge to the tourist, it also provides real life experience and place for tourist to peace their mind. Public may come to the museum just to have some taste at the café or renting the temporary exhibition hall for events. Events could be cultural food festival, antique exhibitions and many more.

 

All in all, the Rempah museum will have activities for the public users at all time. This is to attract outsiders to come to Klang. The tourist able to have a memorable moment as all spaces provide different experience.
